We are seeking to rapidly fill two new design roles (Architectural Assistant and Architectural Technologist) who will join our design team to assist with a range of substantial projects for a variety of rural clients across the South West.
A significant portion of our day-to-day delivery is in the production of first-class design packages to deliver fantastic results across a broad variety of scenarios. Indeed we are regularly complimented on the clarity and quality of our work - by both customers and local authorities!
We now need additional team members to take on and assist with new projects, existing workload and to work alongside our colleagues in the delivery of quality planning applications through building stages to final on-site completion...

Essential
Note this role is only open to current UK residents and requires direct experience of working within the England / Wales planning and building control regime. Do not read further if you do not meet these requirements!
Required
You will likely live in our area and - or at least have strong West-country roots and are looking to return. Whilst the right candidate will be enabled to work from home / on flexible terms, knowledge of the local area and the ability to attend regular team meetings / collaborative design sessions will be required (perhaps at relatively short notice).
You will need have experience of working within a small multi-disciplinary team - handling several concurrent projects, particularly in the fields of:
You will be able to draw quickly and competently to communicate design ideas at client meetings with a pen / pencil... as well as on screen!
This role requires a full (preferably clean) driving licence - and the use of a car... You will be expected to undertake site work / surveys etc - and this may result in occasional antisocial hours and occasional stays away...

Location
The role will be centered on projects based predominantly around the West Country (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset & Somerset) although there may be an opportunity to travel further on occasion.
While there may be scope for home working, the position will essentially be a full-time role - based at our office at Hestercombe House, Taunton. You will therefore be expected to be office-based - but there may be ongoing flexibility to work from home subject to line management discretion.
Due to location and the requirements of the role, your own transport is essential.

- Minimum 2 years work experience (in practice - predominantly in residential projects)
- Full working knowledge of the UK building regulations
- A thorough understanding and experience of the Town & Country Planning process
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (and ideally SketchUp Pro)*

- Traditional barn / heritage building conversions
- Bespoke / one-off housing projects
- Renovation / redevelopment of dilapidated buildings
- New commercial / agricultural projects
- Small scale mixed development proposal

- Demonstrable ability in design
- Ability to undertake measured surveys to a high standard
- Experience and understanding of Permitted Development Legislation
- Confidence and willingness to take a lead in design
- Experience in a building trade / property renovation
- Proven ability and interest in additional architecture software such as AutoDesk Revit, Twinmotion, and / or other architectural rendering tools
- Interest in VR and augmented reality is also highly compatible with our aspirations... Likewise with 3D printing / prototyping...
- Ability in traditional model making would also be useful...
- Also, if you have knowledge of photogrammetry and understand the differences between a Mavic Pro and an Inspire - we're likely to get on (!)
- Office 365 (Word / Outlook / Excel / Powerpoint particularly)
- Corel Draw Suite 2021
- Affinity Designer (etc)
- Photoshop / Adobe Creative Suite
