Apprentice Architectural Technician / Surveyor
Location: Taunton, Somerset - Hestercombe House

Salary / Terms: Fixed 12 month term with a 6 month probationary period at Apprentice NMW.
Following probation, progress & remuneration shall be re-evaluated accordingly.

Background:
Having achieved excellent results with a previous apprentice - Bondstones are now considering opening an opportunity for a new junior team member. The ideal candidate will be keen to explore a career as a CAD Technician / Draughtsman / Surveyor and will, over time, grow to become an integral part of our expanding team - based in Taunton, Somerset.
It is intended that the role will offer the opportunity to progress with Bondstones as the candidates' experience grows.
The candidate:
You will be keen to learn and will do so by actively supporting the delivery of projects and participation in of all forms of feasibility, planning and construction drawings - all the while under professional supervision from your line Manager and colleague Surveyors.
You'll work in collaboration with other designers, acquire knowledge and practical skills through on-the-job learning to attain a professional qualification (eventually attaining 'AssocRICS' or equivalent), developing your industry knowledge through affiliations and continuing professional development. Long term, there will also be the opportunity to become a fully qualified Chartered Member of RICS.
The opportunity:
The role will include a wide variety of site survey work, office based computer modelling & drafting, customer & contractor meetings and web-based & off-site training - as necessary. Additional responsibilities and job roles will be developed to suit the candidate.
The vacancy will suit either a recent school leaver (probably following A-levels) or possibly someone already enrolled on a college / university course who is now wanting to move away from full-time education to a more hands on learning approach.
Perhaps you just don't want the frightening costs of a conventional Degree to loom over you for years after graduation...
If you wish to obtain a degree and more advanced qualifications in the future, this will also be possible through continued on the job learning.

It should be noted that we are seeking an individual with long term prospects within our growing business. Accordingly, rates of pay will be reviewed and aligned with ability and, following a period of probation, full time employment is anticipated.
We are not seeking a wanderer or someone simply 'looking for a job’. You will therefore be determined to start a career in the Architectural field and will have considered other options aside from an apprenticeship.
Individuals who have started an apprenticeship in a similar role elsewhere or wish to re-train from other trades / professions will also be considered.
Interviews for shortlisted Candidates will include a test of aptitude and are likely to involve a 1-to-1 assessment / work experience placement within the team.

Essential requirements:
- Min 8 GCSE's including Maths, Science & English (Grades 4 or above; Grades A-C equivalent)
- A strong desire to gain experience and formal qualifications within the surveying / architecture profession
- You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- You must be very well organized, proactive and a real self-starter
- Ability to work as part of a team and to work to deadlines
- Good IT aptitude and a desire to work with computers - experience of Office 365 will be beneficial
- A strong, self-motivated, work ethic is also a prerequisite
Desirable: (but not necessarily essential):
- 3 'A-levels' or equivalent (preferably including one or more of: Design & Technology, Physics, Maths, Geography, Art & Design)
- A family background in / understanding of agriculture - or - a clear connection with the building and construction industry
- would be highly advantageous
- Driving licence and access to a car (at the very least you will be keen to learn)
- An obvious natural talent for Presentation / Layout and Design
- A passion for IT, Computer Graphics, design, 'making' and gaming
- Experience with SketchUp and / or AutoCAD - or similar design software
- A good understanding of / affinity for architecture and building design principles
- You should be an active outdoorsy type person...
- Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Silver or Above) and / or Queen's Scout Award or similar
